Jimmy Smith was a world renown Jazz musician who played the Hammond organ and made a big impact from the mid 50′s and on. He copied “Wild” Bill Davis, just like everyone else did in those day but he added a different sound with his mimicking the horn players. Most importantly, he was very instrumental and the first to incorporate the organ into Jazz music. It was the famous Hammond B3 that hit the scene in 1955 that really made it possible. Not just for him but many others and in other genres.
Great job on this, “The Sermon” recorded on February 25, 1958, with Art Blakey, Lee Morgan, Lou Donaldson, Kenny Burrell and Tina Brooks…..And More Info
