The Cubanology Blog: The use of the word “Refugee”
This is the meaning of the word refugee and was the choice of words to describe the first wave of Cubans who left Cuba in the early 60′s. It remained the choice word until the Freedom Flights were discontinued in 1973. Then somehow the word refugee became passé and other words began to replace and even substitute it.
